Price of fixed transactions for memory semiconductors, which are focused on South Korean semiconductor companies such as DRAM and NAND flash, has risen simultaneously this month.
This is good news for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which are leading global memory semiconductor markets.
According to Taiwan's market research firm TrendForce on the 30th, fixed transaction price of DDR4 8Gb for PCs in July increased 7.89 percent from last month to $4.10.
The product rose 5% in January and 26.67% in April, the second quarter of this year's long-term contract, and rose again in July when the third quarter's long-term contract began.
As demand for PCs and laptops continues to strengthen amid coronavirus situation, price of DRAMs for PCs that started at the beginning of this year seems to continue until the third quarter.
However, contrary to the initial prediction that DRAM prices for PCs will continue until the end of the year, TrendForce said that the increase could stop in the fourth quarter of this year due to easing the fandom situation and increasing inventory of customers.
"As demand for DRAMs for PCs has gradually weakened since early this month, spot prices have fallen to 10% lower than fixed transaction prices in the third quarter," TrendForce said. "There is a possibility that fixed transaction prices for DRAMs for PCs will fall in the fourth quarter."
